Drug and Alcohol Awareness Training

Drug and Alcohol Awareness Training
Facilitated by Dave McNamara

15th May 2010

Since 2002 Dave has been providing drug and alcohol workshops and courses to a wide variety of service providers across East Sussex. In this workshop we will explore some of the common and not so common myths about alcohol and alcohol use and the way these might impact on the client themselves and/or on the attitudes of others towards them. We will explore patterns of alcohol use and learn how to calculate units as well as understanding the process, motivation and difficulties of change. Confidence will be gained in using harm-minimisation interventions around a client's alcohol/drug use.

We will identify the category and effect of different drugs so that participants can familiarise themselves with different reasons for people's drug use.

The workshop will look at the following -

  • Alcohol Myths and Facts

  • Understanding Units

  • Drugs: Categories and effects

  • Drug, set and setting

  • Lapse, relapse and collapse prevention

This is an excellent workshop as a general overview of drugs and alcohol that will inform counsellors and those in the helping professions.
